Get the Most out of ClassPass – A Personal Trainer’s Perspective

I’ve met a lot of great people through ClassPass (and if I haven’t met you yet, I hope to see you in a Zumba or Bombshell Bootcamp class soon!).  Changing up your workouts can be fun, but if you change them up too much you might not be doing yourself any favors.  Here are my tips as a personal trainer for how to get the most out of ClassPass or another multi-studio pass.

1. Actually go work out.

Don’t just browse the list of studios to the point of decision fatigue and decide to sleep in – GO WORK OUT.  Go schedule your next class right now.

2. Try things more than once.

The first time you do any new workout it’s not going to be as fun or effective as it could be, because you’re still learning the ropes (maybe even literally!).  That instructor you thought was super mean the first time might actually have been helping you correct your form during the brand-new-to-you moves – and helping you to be able to rock your second workout at their studio.  The really confusing spin class weight exercises won’t be nearly as bewildering on your second visit.  Give each workout at least two tries.

3. Go even if your friends flake out.  Be brave.

Most people don’t have the luxury of traveling in fitness squads, so if your ride-or-die fitness buddy turns out to be somehow still alive but NOT riding, just go work out anyway.  You will still be in a group fitness class, so you will be surrounded by other people who are going through the same workout at the same time…almost as good as friends (and maybe new friends waiting to be made).  Fitness classes aren’t scary!  Every class has new people, and everyone is there to get their sweat on.

4. Be consistent.

Try to find workouts that you like and stick with them for 4-6 weeks at a time in order to give yourself the best setup for real, lasting results.  If you hop around too much between workout types, you will still be getting fitter BUT you won’t necessarily see your results, and that can be pretty demotivating.  Give yourself a chance to see how you can finish the whole Zumba class with a smile, climb ALL the hills in spin, or conquer every bootcamp move.

(Plus – you’ll get to know people at each studio, and you won’t feel so scared of going to work out!)

5. Track your results.

Take your own measurements and progress photos so that you will be able to see your results unfold. Working out is fun in and of itself, but it’s also nice to be able to appreciate the change you’re making in your life!  Some studios help their members with tracking, but since you’re just dropping in you might not have access to their tools, so make your own.
