I got such good feedback about keeping the hikes close to home two weeks ago that I’m right back with another Houston hike: the Memorial Park trails that you didn’t know about. (Not the loop and not the new Eastern Glade, I promise!) In fact, you might discover that you’ve been missing out on half of the park altogether.
I present you: the 3.1 mile Green Ridge Trail. That’s right, there’s a whole other side of Memorial Park that’s not the loop – although some of it is under construction at the time of writing this post – and you can hike or bike on miles of trails. Mosquito repellent probably recommended.
This trail includes great birding and wildflower spotting opportunities, and there are restrooms and water fountains nearby (and a whole Beck’s Prime right on the golf course).
Have you visited the south side trails at Memorial Park? There’s a whole project slated to be completed in 2022 involving upgraded trails and a land bridge…BYOM (bring your own mammoth) for that land bridge once it’s completed.
For this week’s challenge, I encourage you to try and tackle all 3.1 miles at once. That’s about an hour of walking, whether you try to visit this particular trail or not. If you’re looking for more of a challenge, try adding this walk distance to your week every other day.
If you’re interested in seeing what other trails you’ve been missing at Memorial Park, check out their full trail map and construction updates.
I hope these weekly destinations, near or far, are helping to get you up and walking! Let me know if you make all 3.1 miles in one walk – I’ll be here to celebrate with you.
