2020 Challenge: Week 1 recap (my first 7 tiny changes of 2020!)

My first week of 2020 wasn’t what I thought it would be – it was busier, more fun, and more tiring than I had anticipated. The tiny changes I made weren’t what I had planned, but I still found at least 10 minutes a day to devote to being healthy!

My first seven tiny changes of 2020:

  1. Plan
I set up my planner for the first quarter, month, and week of 2020 so that I would keep on top of goals, tasks, and ideas for the first part of the year.
  2. Help!
I went to my chiropractor for continued help with my overtight back (pro tip – chiropractors don’t just do bone cracking!).
  3. Freezer meal prep
I cooked and froze some meal components and sauces so that my future self would have some easy options when life gets overbooked.
  4. Early bedtime
I had a rough evening at the end of a very long day, so I went to bed early because it’s what I needed the most.
  5. Cardio
A quick HIIT workout after teaching Zumba (hey, why not? Already sweaty!)
  6. TRX circuit
4 rounds of a 2.5 min TRX endurance circuit – for the full details check out my 2020 challenge highlight on Instagram, where I’m posting every day’s tiny change for the whole year
  7. Meal plan & prep for the week
I planned some simple meals like pasta with veggies, tofu banh mi-ish flatbread, plantains with beans and peppers, and peanut butter oat bites and prepped everything ahead of time that I could (like baking the tofu, cooking the plantains, and rolling up the oat bites)

Some days, I did way more than my 10 minutes; I taught several Zumba classes, but I never consider work my workout, and I worked out on TRX and with my new kettlebell toys most days of the week.  I took several long walks, spent time in a garden for a little soul refreshment, and had some high quality family time. For my personal 2020 challenge, I’m recording the things that were the hardest or most inconvenient for me to do each day so that I will have a 366-day record of the ways in which I challenged my own beliefs.

Growing…never done, is it?
