Choose a summer challenge with me – weekly studio update

Summer is right around the corner (or perhaps here in Houston descending as we speak), and it is a …divisive time for fitness goals. This year, instead of leaving things for September you to sort out, how about…

…if we choose a summer challenge together!

Here are my proposals for you:

  • Fill in your Summer Bingo Card with me at the studio (available starting May 30 – I’m telling you, we are planning ahead this year!)
  • Commit to two strength workouts each week. Not sure where to start? Try out…
    • Training with me once a week (in person or online!) and attending bootcamp – we have popsicles! – also available in person or on-demand online
    • Doing 4 rounds of 30 seconds of squats and 30 seconds of wall or countertop push-ups, for a total of 4 minutes, or 8 minutes for the whole week
    • Putting together 2 upper body exercises, 2 lower body exercises, and one ab exercise for yourself – let me know if you need tips!
  • Commit to getting your steps each day, whatever number you (or we) select
  • Commit to eating a vegetable with lunch and dinner every day, even if it’s a handful of baby carrots

The most important motivational tool you have is…you! Think about how you will feel when you achieve whatever you’re working for. Think about it again. Remind yourself to keep thinking about it.

Some other summer finds so you can be all set up to rock this season:

  • My new favorite water bottle (not a Stanley, I’m sorry!) – it fits in my cupholder and is totally dishwasher safe. And it has been dropped many times and hasn’t scratched.
  • The $11 bike shorts with p o c k e t s that I loved so much I ordered another pair immediately!! The fabric is thick, the waistband stays put, and I accidentally put them in the dryer and they stayed good. Plenty of colors. I find them true to size or slightly large.
  • Add this UPF baseball cap as an easy sun protection boost.
  • Your new favorite organic meal-on-the-go bar (it has almost 40g of carbs and just 10g of protein so I refuse to call it a protein bar – but it won’t melt in your car or suitcase, so you can stay stocked and have high-quality nutrition anywhere)
  • These extra-large ice cubes melt slowly (gotta keep those iced lattes full strength), and they have covers so you can stack them in your freezer! I have been using them since January – they don’t fit in every water bottle, but these do.
  • Or…forgo the ice and just make popsicles! I like coconut milk (the canned kind) with a drizzle of maple syrup and sliced peaches or strawberries.

And an important article about locusts, protein, and you – but, good news, you don’t have to eat the locusts for protein!

When will I see you again?!

  • Saturday 9am Bootcamp (meets in the studio parking lot – sign in online and bring your mat)
  • Sunday 9am Zumba (free, meets at Levy Park – 3801 Eastside)
  • Monday 6:30pm Zumba (free, meets at Levy Park – 3801 Eastside)

Our full-length online Zumba and Bootcamp video classes are still waiting for you!  (get them right here if you haven’t yet)

What are your favorite summer fitness tips? I’m feeling some treadmill workouts coming on for everyone who wants to hide from the soon-to-be brutal heat…let me know if you’re in!
