The longest day of the year… – weekly studio update

The solstice is upon us! But, really, it’s just too hot here even to think. I already used up my hot weather workout tips last week but that didn’t scare off the heat, so this week I’ll share my favorite hydration tips besides just drinking water (duh):

  1. Brew Up Some Herbal (non-caffeinated) Iced Tea
    Iced hibiscus tea, one of my refreshing summer faves, turns out to have positive blood sugar and blood pressure benefits. Peppermint tea couldn’t be more cooling, and orange zinger just tastes like summer nostalgia. Brew up a pitcher for your fridge (or freeze your tea into ice cubes for later) – just make sure to use an extra tea bag or two to account for the ice you’ll add later.
  2. Try Out a Salted Lemonade
    Here’s something similar to what I learned to love in my first year in Houston. Now, I tend to add 1/2 teaspoon maple syrup, a pinch of salt, and a big squeeze of fresh lemon juice to my water bottle for my outdoor workout days to cut down on the amount of actual Gatorade I use as a summer coping mechanism.   3. Keep It Visible
    Why do people buy cute water bottles? To leave them out where they remind you to use them…right? So, leave your water where you can see it to avoid working through all of your planned water breaks.
  4. Remember Your Goals…
    …because you have to be well-hydrated to make fat loss easy on your body and avoid muscle cramps and injuries.

  • Saturday 6/24 9:30am Zumba at Montrose Collective  – it’s time again! (free, 888 Westheimer, street/garage parking, stay for brunch if you want!) – we are moving upstairs to where it is covered!
